Dear Skålleague,
If you are following social media, I am sure you would have noticed all the great posts from current and past members.
Despite what the country has been through recently (and not just Covid19) it is really exciting to see tours on the go, overseas visitors playing in our backyard, and plenty of staycations with locals supporting the tourism & hospitality industry.
With a home packed picnic basket, I recently did a fam trip around the worlds best coast line: the Cape Peninsula. From the northern suburbs, Ou Kaapseweg, Scarborough, Simons Town and back north. Plenty of sightseeing stops along the way and of course a stop for ice cream and coffee; we are certainly spoiled for choice when it comes to coffee shops.
Local is lekker! So let us keep tourism alive in the beautiful Mother City.
I am pleased to report that we are seeing a growth in membership and this includes other clubs in South Africa. This shows that there is value in being a Skål member. Do not forget to make use of all the options made available to you on the Skål International & Cape Town website.
The Local Organising Committee for the 2024 Ska7l International Congress recently met and are actively busy plotting and planning. When the time requires, the LOC will be ready to showcase Cape Town to the World. With your help, we can deliver a state of art presentation to the Skål world. As the planning goes along, members will be called upon to quote and assist accordingly. Exciting times ahead.

We are days away from our upcoming Skål International Cape Town Gala Dinner to be hosted at Aquila Private Game Reserve and Spa.
The overnight gala event is proudly brought to our members by Aquila Private Game Reserve and Spa, Deetlefs Wine Estate, Cruxland Gin, Cape Town Gin (with Fitch and Leeds) and MLT Corp.
At only R550.00 per person, the team at Aquila will host members from 13h00 for welcome drinks and snacks, provide a complimentary pre-gala dinner gin safari (brought to members by Cruxland Gin and Cape Town Gin) and host the stunning 3 course gala dinner together with live music.

Our member Barry O’Donoghue shared some exciting insights into a recent group visit! Yes – your read right – a group visit.
In some very welcome news for South Africa’s tourism industry, a group of over 200 American students visited Cape Town as part of an international leadership programme, during May and June.
The group was hosted by Cape Town based tour operators and adventure specialists Cape Xtreme Adventure Tours and Cape To Addo Safaris with whom the group did a range of adventure activities, including sand boarding, quad biking and zip lining as well as multi-day tours down the Garden Route.
Skål International Cape Town Skålleague, Barry O’Donoghue – MD of Cape Xtreme and Cape to Addo shared the positive feedback from the group’s visit on a recent Skål webinar.
The group’s visit is a very positive sign for a renewal in international confidence and interest in South Africa as a destination and evidence that international groups can be successfully and safely hosted during this challenging time.
