Skål International Cape Town Kicks Off 2025 with a Record-Breaking Celebration

Skal Cape Town 2025

Cape Town, South Africa – January 2025 – Skål International Cape Town began the new year with a landmark event, welcoming new leadership, introducing new members, and setting ambitious goals for the year ahead. The cocktail gathering, hosted at the CPUT Granger Bay Hotel School, was the largest first-of-the-year event in the club’s history. With the stunning backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean and Robben Island, members and guests came together to celebrate new beginnings and strengthen professional relationships.

The event marked the official handover of the Presidential chain to Johan van Schalkwyk, who takes on the role of President for 2025. He outlined plans to grow the club’s membership, create valuable business opportunities, and strengthen international connections. The evening also recognised a long-standing member’s commitment to the organisation, welcomed new professionals into the club, and highlighted Skål’s dedication to giving back to the tourism community.

Several respected tourism figures and Skål leaders were in attendance, including Fiona Angelico, Deputy Director Africa for Skål International; Carol Bayne, Past President of Skål Cape Town and Membre d’Honneur; Anne Lamb, Membre d’Honneur; Dawn Smith, Past President of Skål Cape Town and National Vice President of Skål South Africa; Aimee Lentz, Past Young Skål President and current Cape Town Vice President; and Carol Collins, President of Skål Cape Winelands. Their presence reflected the strong support for Skål Cape Town’s vision for the year ahead.

During the evening, the newly appointed committee for 2025 was introduced, consisting of experienced tourism professionals dedicated to guiding the club forward. The event also welcomed three new members to the Skål Cape Town network. Each new member recited the Skål Oath, officially becoming part of the international tourism community, where business relationships and friendships go hand in hand. Robin Troup of Quality Touring Services was honoured for ten years of membership, a significant milestone that reflects the long-term professional connections and friendships Skål enables.

In addition to strengthening industry ties, the event placed a strong emphasis on community impact. A fundraising initiative was held in support of the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), with funds dedicated to purchasing lifesaving buoys for Cape Town’s beaches. Recognising the crucial role the NSRI plays in keeping both locals and visitors safe along the coastline, Skål Cape Town was proud to contribute to this vital cause.

With Cape Town recently named the Best City in the World for 2025 by Time Out, Skål members are eager to showcase the city’s tourism industry. Johan van Schalkwyk highlighted the importance of the organisation’s role in ensuring Cape Town remains a leading destination, reinforcing Skål’s commitment to building meaningful business connections and supporting the city’s tourism sector.

The next networking lunch is set for 11 February 2025, providing another opportunity for members to connect and exchange ideas. As the new year begins, Skål International Cape Town looks forward to a calendar filled with professional engagement, business opportunities, and community involvement.
