September 2021 Newsletter

NEWSLETTER: SEPTEMBER 2021

Spring greetings fellow Skålleague,

It is almost the end of the first month of Spring. What a month it has been! In the last few days we received the good news that South Africa was finally removed from the German restricted travel list and that the USA will lift their worldwide travel ban to vaccinated travellers.

The world is indeed starting to move at a faster pace – hence our newsletter for September 2021 was slightly delayed.

We trust you have found that spring in your step and skipping your way through September.

How wonderful it was to see all the beautiful photos of the wildflowers out along the West Coast and further afield. And not to forget the September snow and seeing all the fun had by those braving the cold. Social media really played a good part for those that were not able to venture out to the flowers and snow.

On the 18 August we held our Gala Dinner at Aquila Private Game Reserve. Thank you to Colleen Rens from Skål International Cape Town & Johan van Schalkwyk together with the awesome team from Aquila Private Game Reserve for pulling out all the stops to make this event a memorable one.

From the welcome drinks & snacks, check in, rooms with stunning views, game drive, gin tasting – thank you Cape Town Gin Company – along with scrumptious canapés – it was well presented and appreciated by all attending.

We’d also like to thank Quality Touring Services & MLT Car Hire & Tours for offering  transfer services and the logistics, as well as Deetlefs Wine Estate for the welcome drinks and toasting wines.

The gala dinner was superb. The table settings & décor, food, wine & great company. It is definitely one for the books. I believe the after party and social lasted into the early hours of the next morning. Most importantly – thank you to all those that were able to attend. It is appreciated.

The Bi-Annual AGA of Skål South Africa was held on the 18 September 2021 at 08h00. Cape Town & Winelands Committees gathered at Hotel Verde and Zoomed in together. We will share more details about this session.

EXCITING NEWS: our new look website is up and running. We invite you to pop on over to www.skalcapetown.org and get a feel for the new look and make sure that your contact details are all correct. Thank you to Johan van Schalkwyk and his Aquila Safari team for all the work. A special thanks to Rodney Strydom for his hard work and dedication, looking after our website over the last couple of years. Rodney has kept it up to date with events, specials, photos and membership details.

JAMMS, a partnership between Skål, SATSA, Wesgro, SAACI, FEDHASA and Cape Town Tourism, meet on a regular basis engaging with the public, private & government sector. All with one common goal – rejuvenating our tourism industry and to see how the RED TAPE can be reduced or cut so that we may operate with ease.

Discussions vary from Operating Permits, Covid19 regulations, safety & security, to mention a few. I encourage you to visit these association sites and learn more.
