It was a truly memorable day for Skål International Cape Town as we gathered beyond the city, surrounded by the natural beauty of Dekkersvlei Vineyards, for an afternoon that perfectly captured the essence of Skål — friendship, business, and meaningful connection.
The occasion was made even more special as we had the honour of welcoming Skål International World President Andrés O. Hayes during his recent visit to South Africa ahead of the upcoming Skål International World Congress 2026, while he was attending WTM Africa in Cape Town. His visit provided a valuable opportunity to bring together local tourism professionals while strengthening connections within the broader Skål South Africa community.
We were equally delighted to welcome Esther Romero on her first visit to both our city and country — a moment that added an extra layer of significance to an already special gathering.
Hosted by Skål International Cape Town President Johan van Schalkwyk, the day began in true Skål tradition with the Skål toast — setting the tone for an afternoon rooted in camaraderie, collaboration, and shared purpose. With the scenic Paarl landscape as our backdrop, members engaged, embodying the spirit of “Doing Business Among Friends.”
A special moment during the event saw President Hayes acknowledge the contributions of Skål International Cape Town Vice President Aimee Lentz and Skål International Cape Town Committee Member and YSK Ruvarashe Zimuto, presenting them with gifts in recognition of their dedication and impact within the Skål community.
He also presented Skål International Cape Town President Johan van Schalkwyk, with a presidential coin and his personal blue and gold flag — meaningful symbols of connection and unity across the global Skål network.
Throughout the afternoon, guests enjoyed a rich and immersive tasting experience, including a guided journey through three exceptional aged expressions, complemented by a curated selection of wine and brandy. A particular highlight was the presentation of an 18-year-old Dekkersvlei brandy — a proud and refined taste of our region, shared in the spirit of hospitality and heritage.
As the day drew to a close, we gathered in true Skål spirit, sharing stories, laughter, and reflections as the sun set over the Paarl valley. It was a fitting end to an afternoon that celebrated not only the strength of our network, but also the enduring values that unite us.
To friendship. To business. To tourism.
